Earlier this year, there were rumors of Ducati being up for sale and one bidder was thought to be Harley Davidson.

These rumors weren’t exactly unfounded considering what Ducati’s parent company was going through. After the much publicized dieselgate scandal, Volkswagen need to cut back on expenses to cover the multiple fines they were being hit with along with the costs of fixing affected vehicles. Rumored to be on the chopping block was Ducati as the Italian bike brand’s earnings were hovering around the €100 million mark.

According to CarBuzz, a few companies were interested in the purchase including Bajaj Auto and Harley-Davidson. The former was even said to have hired Goldman Sachs to work on the deal, which was worth up to €1.5 billion.

Now Ducati’s chief executive Rupert Stadler has put those rumors to rest. Speaking with Reuters, Stadler said VW took “steps to reduce costs by 10 billion euros” and are “gradually increasing our financial and organizational leeway for the strategic realignment.” Thus there’s no longer a need to sell of Ducati, though investors and potential buyers are expecting VW to change their mind in the future.

Those who were hoping for Harley Davidson to purchase Ducati will just have to keep waiting

Sad to hear this but on the plus side Harley seems to know what people want. The Livewire was a good example of it, at this point its a matter of right timing in the market.
